... I just accidentally wandered into the only clothes shop in Thames Ditton, which is scarily pricey, but was having a sale. Ended up with a skirt that actually fits! (Unusual).
And also, I happened to see a top that was so blatantly in the style of Kaylee from Firefly that I had to get it to add to my costuming stockpile. It's "special" - predominently pink and greenish, with exceptionally garish patterning to it. I shall have to post public warnings so people can get out their sunglasses in time..

Of interest to film-watchers in the London area is Film 4 at Somerset House - watch films outside on a really big screen :)

It's at Somerset House, which is about 1 tube station away from london Waterloo station (or a walk from Waterloo, over a bridge).
I *think* they used Somerset House to film the Gringott's Bank stuff in teh first Harry Poter film!

The films are on from 10th Aug to 19th Aug so you should definitely be able to make some of it (though at about £12 a film it's a bit expensive, especially as it looks like a tie-in which is showing the same films on TV for free ;) )
The website I linked to above has more info on which films are on which days.

Interesting plan - looks like something in the "old classics" category ;)
Saying that, "Brazil" is on the 17th and is one of beermat's favourite films...
